As usual since 2004, the U.S. State Department recently published the Country Reports on Terrorism 2013. The preparation of this study involves, since 2012, the participation of the National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism (START). As a part of its mission —“to advance science-based knowledge about the human causes and consequences of terrorism and serve as a leading resource for homeland security policymakers and practitioners”, this leading educational and research center headquartered at the University of Maryland is responsible for data collection and preparation of the Statistical Annex that comes with the main report.
Based on the 2013 Statistical Annex, the next figure embodies both a particular attempt to promote that mission and an alternative, fashionable way to represent some of the key facts from the annual report.
