Wikistrat Q&A Session on Iraq and Yemen

Wikistrat ‘s Senior Analyst Mr. Leslie Campbell answers my question about Yemen’s political transition in a Q&A session:

“So far, the Gulf Initiative has been succesful to avoid a Yemeni civil war . It has also provided the framework for a peaceful political transition through the National Dialogue Conference (NDC). Having said that, I wonder whether this Saudi-sponsored enterprise has to do more with Saudi Arabia national security and interests than with an inclusive Yemeni-led process. It raises another question: Was the NDC conceived to keep public appearances while effective decisions will be taken by the political/military/tribal elites outside its margins? “
